Did you know that your brain will sacrifice a muscle to protect a joint? Muscles can heal with relative ease. A joint injury can last lifetime.
It is called arthrokinetic inhibition. This is a protective mechanism in which an injury to a joint sends a message to the muscles that cross it not to contract fully. A fully contracted muscle across a joint increases pressure on the joint. After an injury, the contractile capacity of those muscles may shut down to prevent further injury.
